Developmental Milestones are skills such as rolling over, smiling for the first time, taking a first step, and saying a first word. Children reach milestones in how they play, move, speak, act, and learn. Observing how and when your child does these kinds of things tells you about their development. Although all children are unique and will do some things faster or slower than others it’s a good idea to track these milestones.
Help Me Grow Bexar County provides questionnaires to help you identify your child’s progress on milestones. Completing these questionnaires can be fun and educational and can help identify your child’s strengths or areas where they may need some encouragement or support.
Help Me Grow Bexar County offers two developmental questionnaires. The Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3) and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE2). The ASQ-3 helps you understand how your child thinks, speaks, listens, understands, and moves. The ASQ:SE2 helps you understand how your child expresses feelings, shows emotions, and behaves. Both screens are available in English and Spanish.
After the questionnaires are completed a Care Coordinator will contact you to share your child’s results. Based on those results the Care Coordinator may provide activities to try with your child and/or connect you to additional resources.
